With the triathlon season winding down here in the US, we’ve been pretty busy: marking down prices, clearing out bikes to make room for our 2014 stock, and bringing in cold-weather clothing to make your runs and rides a bit more comfortable.
Our friends at Newton Running decided to add to our workload (Thanks, Newton!) and introduced the BOCO AT, their new trail-running shoe! We’ve just received these shoes and we’ve gotta tell you: They’re pretty sweet. Here’s the rundown:
The “BOCO” in BOCO AT stands for BOulder, COlorado, which is where Newton Running calls home. Being based in Boulder is important for Newton Running; the city is considered a mecca for endurance athletes and lovers of the outdoors. The “AT” stands for All-Terrain, which is what this shoe can go through, thanks to its 4 multi-directional lugs in the forefoot.
Personally, when I first heard about the shoe, I was hoping they would come out with a special edition “BOCO AT-AT” that would have a color scheme and design similar to the AT-ATs from Star Wars. I wasn’t the only one, was I?
Yes, I’m a nerd. And yes, I am currently wearing a t-shirt with Chewbacca riding a road bike.
Anyway, let’s take a look at those sweet, sweet lugs:
Mmmm… Luggy goodness.
The lugs and the tread will help ensure superior comfort and grip in all sorts of terrain. The closed upper mesh will help keep rocks and debris out, and its water resistance will help your toes stay dry in rain, snow, hail, muddy conditions, locker rooms of Super Bowl winning teams, etc. If you have a tendency to stub your toes every now and then, the rubber toe bumper will help protect your little piggies from rocks, roots, and other trail hazards.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Newton shoe without the Action/Reaction technology in the midfoot, the biomechanical metatarsal sensor plate, and an anti-friction, anti-bacterial sockliner. This guy also accommodates most orthotics.
Have you had a chance to run in a pair? Do you want to? Well, feel free to stop by the shop to try them on!
